Arbor Day will be celebrated statewide this weekend. This year will mark the first Arbor Day event on Molokai in several years, according to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The Moloka’i Land Trust, in partnership with Kaulunani, has worked to revive the event and has grown native plants for community members to adopt and plant at home. Kaulunani is the urban and community forestry program of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
“We felt it was important to provide trees for our community that were grown right here on Moloka’i,” Ali Lucas, programs manager for Moloka’i Land Trust, said in a news release Monday. “We’ve taken care of these seedlings since they first emerged and will be happy to see them go to their forever homes.”
